Nutgrass and Mullumbimby Couch Weeds

Nutgrass and Mullumbimby Couch are very tough weeds which are extremely difficult to control and kill. Once established in a lawn they will need to be treated thoroughly and properly in order to completely remove them.

Nutgrass and Mullumbimby Couch are extremely similar in their appearance, with weed treatments being the same, as well as belonging to the same weed family, for this reason we will refer to both as Nutgrass.

Nutgrass has multiple triangular stems which are topped off with three green leaves and abundant seeds. This weed will send out underground runners which will grow multiple new bulbs as it continues to spread itself further around the lawn or garden. Each new bulb can then create another new weed plant.

Control Of Nutgrass and Mullumbimby Couch

There are no control methods which will work for these lawn weeds.

How To Kill Nutgrass and Mullumbimby Couch

Hand pulling or digging the weed out of the lawn is often effective - but only if done very carefully and thoroughly, this is because the root system will often break off during removal, allowing the weed to reproduce from the bulbs it has previously set down across the soil. So be sure to remove all the roots and it's bulbs.

There are also no selective herbicides available which can kill Nutgrass.

Nutgrass weed can best be killed by the use of a broad spectrum herbicide such as Glyphosate.

The weed will need to be careful painted with Glyphosate using a small paintbrush dipped in the herbicide. Allow the weed 2-3 weeks to die off after treatment and then repeat the same poisoning method for as long as new shoots emerge.

Be very careful with the use of Glyphosate to not spill any on the lawn or any other plants as it will kill almost all plants it comes into contact with.
