RTF Self Repairing Tall Fescue

Rhizomatous Tall Fescue

Tall Fescue Lawns

Tall Fescue is a wonderful lawn, it is a cool season grass which produces a very thick, dark green and luscious soft carpet of green lawn. This grass can also often be grown in warmer climates when adequate water is applied to the lawn throughout the hotter months of Summer.

However, one of the drawbacks of Tall Fescue is that it is a classic bunch type grass, meaning one grass seed will produce one leaf blade, which will eventually produce more leaves in the same individual grass plant, but will never spread and grow new lawn. This means that once the lawn is damaged, it must be re-seeded or re-sodded for lawn repair to occur. This also leads Tall Fescue lawn to often become clumpy when they are not regularly re-seeded and repaired after damage.

Tall Fescue lawns may even need to be totally re-sodded every few years as the lawn plants age and cannot create other new lawn plants to replace themselves.

RTF Self Repairing Tall Fescue

Self Repairing Tall Fescue is a new variation of the ever popular Tall Fescue lawn type. RTF stands for Rhizomatous Tall Fescue, which simply means that this grass grows underground runners called Rhizomes, a characteristic which is most commonly associated only with warm season grasses such as Couch lawn.

This breakthrough gives this grass a new feature which other Tall Fescues do not have - the ability to spread underground and thicken up to create new lawn. This also allows RTF to repair itself from damage, something which other Fescues cannot do. This unique new ability also gives this grass it's most popular name in Australia, which is Self Repairing Tall Fescue.

The root system of RTF is also far more robust than regular Tall Fescue. It's roots will grow deeper and thicker, as well as being more supported and protected by it's underground stems. This allows RTF to be less prone from damage from wear and tear, as well as having that unique ability to repair itself even when damage does occur.

A New Age For Tall Fescue

This excellent advance in RTF Tall Fescue now brings this grass into the forefront as an excellent viable alternative to other grass types in Australia's lawns. Advancing the lawn to become one of the first choices when considering other cool season grasses, and even becoming an option to replace warm season grasses in many regions as well.

Self Repairing Tall Fescue becomes a real alternative for warm season areas by being more a more drought tolerant lawn than other Tall Fescue, as well as having excellent tolerance to frost in Winter, excellent shade tolerance, and with good lawn disease and pest resistance.

Lawn Mowing Self Repairing Tall Fescue

Like all cool season lawns, and like other Tall Fescues, this lawn will need to be mowed at a generous height, usually 4-6 cm is best to maintain the lawn in it's best health and giving it it's best appearance.
